Nintendo Wii Power Adapter Voltage Tester Lead

I've got a box of Nintendo Wii power adapters that I need to test and there are basically two ways for me to do this:

  1. Use a Digital Multimeter (DMM) directly on the pins and hope you don't slip and short the pins out
  2. Over engineer a cable from parts you purchased from Aliexpress
Needless to say I'm going with Option 2 🤣🤣

The first thing to do is snip the banana plugs off of one end of the cables.  If you have some heat-shrink tubing then now is the time to put some on the cable (remember to move it well away from the area you are going to be soldering).

Now we need to work out the polarity (luckily the answer is on the Wii power adapter)!

Using a 'handy-helper' you can then line up the cable and the correct pin on the connector, apply some liquid flux and then apply some solder!

Then the same again for the other lead

Now you can slide the heat shrink tubing over the solder joint and using a heat gun, shrink the tubing!

Just to make it neat and tidy I used some small bits of electrical tape to wrap around the cable:

Now I can connect this socket directly to my DMM and quickly and easily test all of my Nintendo Wii power adapters to make sure the correct voltage is coming out of them before plugging them in to any of the Nintendo Wii's I have that need testing..
